Solar!
Now days its almost common place for K & W Hylands to install a Solar Hot Water system to complement a modern condensing boiler heating system on new build and refurbishment projects. Many private customers wishing to take the opportunity to save on their fuel bills also opt for the inclusion of Solar when upgrading their existing heating system.
K & W Hylands Ltd have been installing Solar Hot Water Systems for years. Please feel free to discuss your project with us.
Be the project a block of flats or one large house the principle is the same. Well positioned solar panels on a roof harness the power in both direct and diffused sunlight in order to convert the energy to heat, for the production of hot water for the home. A typical well-sized solar system should provide around 50-70% of the domestic hot water requirements of a home, representing a very worthwhile saving on hot water heating costs.

Air Source & Ground Source Heat Pumps!
Air Source Heat Pumps: The heat contained within the air is transferred to the heat pump's refrigeration circuit. The heat pump converts this into hot water, which heats your house and domestic hot water. There is no need for boring or digging. Heat pumps connected to a heating system provide both heat and hot water. It can also replace your existing boiler and hot water cylinder and provide you with cheap, reliable heat for the future.
Ground Source Heat Pumps: Heat pumps move stored solar energy from the ground into the home to provide a total solution for Domestic Hot Water and all heating needs.
Because heat pumps simply move energy, rather than creating it by burning fossil fuels, they are very efficient. For every 4KW of heat moved into the house only 1KW of electricity is consumed. This gives a perceived efficiency of 400% sometimes stated as a Co-efficient Of Performance (COP) of 4:1.
Heat collection is achieved by installing a series of pipes in the ground. They are buried a metre deep in trenches or in bore holes up to 100 meters deep and contain a water glycol mix at a low temperature. The surrounding soil is at a higher temperature, typically 10-13°C and gently warms the glycol mix as it is pumped around the ground loop.
A temperature increase of the ground loop fluid of just 3 or 4°C; is all the heat pump requires.
